New England Cottontail Conservation Initiative

Many partners are working to save the New England cottontail: federal and state agencies, wildlife organizations, private companies, towns and municipalities, land trusts, zoos, universities, and foresters helping people manage their land. Partners protect, create, and renew young forest and shrubland in Focus Areas in the species' six-state range, which includes southern of Maine, eastern New York, and parts of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Wildlife scientists and zoo personnel conduct research, population monitoring, and captive breeding to help this rare native rabbit survive.
